The Salvation Army Prepares to Feed More This Year

Nov 24, 2021 | by Tori Jaworski

This season we are all still experiencing the effects of the pandemic, and The Salvation Army has continued to adapt to meet the need. This Thanksgiving, The Salvation Army will serve Thanksgiving meals to individuals and families in its shelters, motel shelters and Safe Outdoors Spaces.

The Salvation Army is preparing over 2,148 traditional Thanksgiving meal servings for our neighbors in need. 3,400 additional meals will be provided this year due to new community supporters, Chef Tajahi Cooke of Miss Betty’s Cooking, and their team of Madsgiving partners.  The ingredients include, but are not limited to, the following food items donated by King Soopers:

3,330 lbs of turkey

135 lbs of butter

3,300 bottles of water

5,800 dinner rolls

700 pumpkin pies

1,800 pints of milk

In partnership with the City of Denver, The Salvation Army operates four hotel shelters assisting people with shelter, food and other essentials. Meals will be delivered throughout the day to the hotel shelters along with other sites, including Crossroads, Lambuth Family Center, Harbor Light, the Safe Outdoor Space in Aurora and five Salvation Army Corps.

In line with their ‘Zero Hunger – Zero Waste’ mission, King Soopers/City Market has donated 100% of the food to help meet the need once again.

“We are grateful for the incredible work the Salvation Army does to help feed people in the place we call home,” says Jessica Trowbridge of King Soopers/City Market. “This meal is a 45+ year Thanksgiving tradition for us and we are pleased to once again partner with the Salvation Army to help those who come seeking assistance this holiday season.”
